A Little Bit of Home

Long time no speak! My apologies for a very late post, however it was intended. I spent 6 days at home in Helsinki and came back to Aberystwyth for work where there was nothing worth sharing, so I thought I would post 2 weeks worth of posts in one. I had an amazing week in Helsinki, sun shining during the day and snowing in the night made the experience all the more magical. I enjoyed trips with my mother swimming, playing badminton and ice skating. We also went on some lovely walks to the neighbourhood beach which was completely iced over! We went to the cinema twice an occasion to see Gravity in 3D, which was simply stunning and possibly one of the most insightful and inspiring films I have seen in a long time. We also went to see the Wolf of Wall Street on Superpäivä (superday) which was chosen at random in excuse to see a film on a day where the tickets were incredibly cheap. We were however surprised by our own amusement as it was exceptionally enthralling for a three hour film. On the other hand, it is not a film to watch with your mother as there are numerous nude scenes and, as I found out later, had 569 uses of the word 'fuck', being the second film in cinematic history to have used this word the most.

Being back home gave me the chance to do some baking and cooking. I made a chocolate fudge cake and a joint effort in making mincemeat pies with my mother. Finland also has some delicious pastries you can't find in England which I was especially looking forward to, such as lihariisipastejat (literal meaning: meat-rice-pastry which is self-explanatory). Whilst I was there, I had the chance to take some photos with my father's camera so I hope you enjoy these photos I took:

Homeward Bound

Hello all! So my exam is tomorrow which means that, yes, I am indeed procrastinating. I thought I'd take a break from studying to write about my week which has definitely improved. My flight was meant to be today but my mum has kindly paid quite a sum of money for me to come on Thursday. I can't actually believe that I've finally got a plan for this week! After all this time I can go home. Aside from that ounce of positivity, my newfound eating habits have slipped away. I am trying to keep eating at least something healthy everyday, but nothing can stop my hand from reaching for that chocolate bar.
I have to say though that I was particularly proud of my culinary efforts when making this delicious meal, comprising of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado and blocks of cheddar.

A New Beginning

So my first week as a blogger has led to an unexpected turn of events. On my arrival back to Aberystwyth to study for my exam the following week, I find out that the entire exam timetable for the university is shifted one week late due to high tides and bad weather. I live quite near to the seaside however, luckily, my house wasn't in the area for evacuation. And, as strange as this may sound, the possibility of flooding wasn't my first concern. I had paid for train and flight tickets to fly back to Finland 4 days after my exam. As my exam had been postponed a week I've been on my computer all day everyday emailing and filling in forms just to sort out this mess.

The sand had to be pushed off the roads due to the very high tide
an old bench completely wrecked

On the other hand, my diet is going rather as I'd hoped. I've formed a relatively carb-free diet which I've been able to stick to easily. I've been able to eat a substantial and delicious amount of food without feeling any need for dessert, which is nice.

The First Post

Welcome one and all. That sounded less cliché in my head. I don't really know where to start, or even finish for that matter. I wanted to start this blog so that I could keep track of my life, and even keep me going for a while as I am spending my days less productively. I plan to post once every week with a photo that I had taken to 'summarise' that particular week and to write down my dietary progress and other deatils relating to it. So without further ado, I hope you (or even I) enjoy this blog.
